The roof of the world

Nepal

Nepal is predominantly known for the Himalaya, and indeed this is the feature that attracts most to the country. As one gazes at lofty Mount Everest standing 8,850m high, it’s easy to forget that Nepal is geographically diverse, with parts of the country sitting below 100m above sea level. With such variance comes as varied flora and fauna making it a county of outstanding natural beauty. Nepal is also home to what many describe as ‘the friendliest people on earth’… Nepal has a lot to live up to.

With a monsoonal climate and four distinct seasons, it’s easy to conclude that the best times to visit are from Oct – Dec when clear, cool weather takes over or from April – June: warm and dry, flowers are stunning and temperatures just right for hiking and exploring.

Kathmandu is the tourist gateway to Nepal and is the economic hub. Religious and cultural festivities form an important part of life and timing a trip to coincide with one of the many festivals is a great addition to any trip.

Trekking is one of the main draws to Nepal with a range of options too vast to list here. From 2 days guided hikes to month long expeditions – and everything in between – we have a lot of experience organising treks so each trip can fit perfectly with you requirements. High on our list is visiting the Annapurna region. Lesser known than Everest – though this is changing – a 7 – 14 day circuit within the region shows the Himalaya at its best. ‘Tea-house’ trekking is a really easy way for those who want to do a self-guided walk. Requiring no external support or guides, the tea houses cater well for hikers with comfortable beds, large meals and hot showers.

Alongside trekking, mountain biking and rafting provide the second largest tourist attraction and again trip duration and difficulty is all tailored to suit the traveller. Getting around in Nepal is easy. For longer journeys, there are many internal airlines that offer good value for money schedule flights and the micro-bus is fantastic for shorter ones.
