7 Travel Destinations For Your 50's and 60's

First things first: these destinations are not solely for those of us in our 50's and 60's! They're all magnificent places to go on holiday in their own right for families and young travellers alike, but when we put our heads together of the most popular destinations our older clients particularly enjoy, these all feature high on the list.

1. Canada. High on many bucket lists, Canada has so much to offer the discerning traveller. Known predominantly for its stunning wilderness, vast plains and abundant wildlife, Canada’s cities are also top-notch. Multi-cultural Toronto is a must-stop for any foodie, while Montreal is a quirky mix of French and English history and architecture. The most favoured of all, particularly by older generations, Vancouver is the gem of the west.

2. Scotland. Despite being on our (relative) doorstep, it never ceases to surprise us how some of our most well-travelled customers have barely touched Scotland. With vast landscapes, buzzing cities and immensely friendly people, Scotland makes for a wonderful getaway. Whether you’re there for the Highland Games or the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, we’d encourage you to time your visit with one of their iconic festivals. Plus, taking the Caledonian Sleeper from London is great fun!

3. Japan. Japan’s cities, which blend ancient culture with futuristic vision, are only half the story. The friendly people, interesting food and diverse geography from forests and mountains to gardens and coastal trails, make Japan a must-visit at some point in your life.

4. Nepal. There’s something particularly special about Nepal. The influences from India, China and Tibet make it so incomparably rich in heritage and culture. Kathmandu is a safe, exciting city and the experience of visiting temples such as Swayambhunath and the incredible Pashupatinath will stay with you forever. Venturing to Pokhara and the Annapurna region will fill you with awe and provide a perspective on life which will see you return home filled with wonderful memories.

5. Italy. Tuscany, specifically, is a huge hit for our older clientele. Whether it’s Florence, Siena, Pisa or Duomo, meandering the cities of Tuscany is a treat for any traveller who enjoys the finer things in life. Escape to the countryside for a few days and tour olive gardens, sunflower fields and relax in classic Italian villas with sweeping verandas.

6. Tanzania. An African safari is on most traveller’s ‘must do’ lists, but they can be expensive so tend to be the preserve of older customers. Tanzania is particularly good due to ease of access and an abundance of wildlife, national parks and iconic scenery.

7. Paris. You’re never too old for a little romance, and Paris is not only super-easy to get to via the Eurostar but offers so much. Whether you’re after a beautiful hotel, fine art and history or wonderful cuisine, Paris ticks the box. What more do you need on a romantic weekend away?
