Oman

Rich heritage and an unrivalled welcome

Oman

An emerging destination that lends itself to a combination of a beach stay, culture and adventure. Muscat is a charming city and visiting the souks gives a good insight into daily life, the Grand Mosque is also a must - just remember to cover up. There are a few hotels in the city itself and one of our favourites is The Chedi which oozes style, definitely worth upgrading to the Club Suites for the sunken bath, huge living area and spirits on tap!

If you focus is more on a beach stay then travelling half an hour from the city brings you to the Al Bustan Palace and a little further to the Shangri La. Both of these cater for adults and families and are right on the beach, if you time it right you might even see some turtle hatchlings being released. Inland the dramatic landscape unfolds on a jeep safari before enjoying cooling off in a Wadi, you might even find the odd Oryx or two as you wind through the mountains. An overnight in a desert camp is also to be recommended for something a little different.

Oman also lends itself to touring and there are some fascinating towns still with traditional markets such as Nizwa, then down to Salalah before heading inland. For something a little different consider staying at Zighy Bay on the Musandam Peninsular – accessed via road from Dubai there are a few unique options from to arrive in the resort including para gliding. There are some fabulous restaurants in the towns but worth noting that alcohol is only served in the hotels.
